We just got our chicks!!! After coming back to surburban life after the holidays (We visited the family farm and cousins who are ranchers) We felt something was missing in our life. We are inspired by your site and decided to start with raising chickens for eggs. We also Homeschool and this will be our Science unit this semester. (Humane observations only!) God bless you as you have blessed others.

I visit your site at least once a week to hear about the new projects you all are doing over there in Pasadena! I live in a condo and my yard is the size of a small bedroom -- but I've installed a compost bin because you've inspired me! I was also brave enough to grow some beans, herbs and fruit trees because you people did it and so can I. Hopefully I can make a visit and see what life is like on the homestead. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your lifestyle with everyone!

Stumbled across your website several months ago. I find that I try to visit it almost every day --- I love it! Thanks for doing what you're doing and sharing it all with the rest of us. It means more than you can know to me and most likely to many others. Happy Holidays!

shalom from the Negev desert. I have an 80 sq m vegetable garden in the heart of the city and grow much of my own food. over the last few years, I have collected a number of neighbors to form a 'compost syndicate' and it is amazing how grateful people are to participate in even such a small project!

I just found your site but I've got the blues. I have fourteen beautiful chickens and roosters that I was raising for food. The local police dept. just told me that, though I live on four acres, I am still considered 'residential', so I have to get rid of them. That makes me really mad! What harm are my chickens doing to anyone???. Anyway I am writing to ask your advice. I don't yet know how to cull them or prepare them for consumption. Anyone got any ideas???

OH! Thank you so much for loving God's creation and the perfect order of His nature! I love your website and have been looking for help on transforming my all grass yard (we just moved here) into a useful life-giving and food sourcing habitat. I am glad to have found you. I will keep checking your site. If I have anything to offer in return to you, I will let you know. ;)

I'd just like to thank you for this tremendous site. I credit you with my decision to raise Welsh Harlequin ducks next year. Your writings about Khaki Cambells are informative and concise and make the prospect seem quite uncomplicated. So, a big "Thank You!"

Ive just had a trio of ducks stolen, this has left me with 3 orphans 10 days old. Ive got them under a heat lamp and feeding chick crumb, so far so good.

I have 1/8th of an acre behind my home in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. With only a bit of money I make as a server in a restaurant, I manage to eat well most of the year. I do it through gardening. With your methods, however, I'm betting I can eat well year round...on a waiter's salary!

Wow! You guys are living my dream...which seems so far away from my top-floor apartment in NYC! Your website is great too. I found it this morning while doing a search on, "living off the grid." I will stop back often and hopefully I can one day report to you that my boyfriend and I have moved to our home out of the city and started our garden. Continued success and true fortune to you!!!

Love your website. My wife & 1 year old daughter live in Manitou Springs, Colorado. It started with gardening in some planter beds, escalated to raising chickens (5 of em) and I'm constantly reworking little patches of the yard to grow more. We are taking our first run with winter vegetables this year. I've hit up my grandmother for some canning lessons later this fall. Want to add a greenhouse next year. Please don't get rid of your website.

Please visit my website and help my wife and I escape the rat race and live off the grid. We hope to buy a small parcel of land in the remote Ozarks wilderness and build a modest cabin. Thanks!

I found this site by mere accident, and how thankful I am for having found it! As someone taking baby steps towards reclaiming the way of life of my ancestors, full of respect for a simple way of life, and remembering to honor mother earth in the process, it fills me with excitement and joy to know that there are many others like me engaged on the same journey. Blessings to all of you for sharing your knowledge, and extending your support to those of us engaged in taking the next obvious step towards our human evolution, and a higher level of consciousness. Back to the basics!

How funny! I was raised in the mid-west. (Indiana). We have lived this way all my life. Gardens, raising our own food, building our own house, this is normal for people here. You have good info for the clueless. Don't need or like the religious message.
