Most really strange errors I have seen was because of 1) not bound to a single processor 2) two mercury.exe processes started simultaneously for some reason, eating mail and/or duplicating queues

FProt AV (which can be used by Mercury for virus scanning) does not allow updates to the virii db via ftp^, but http is supported^. Michael D. Setzer II says: I have been using wget to get the updates for some time:
