July 14, 2002

This is a very strange year for tomatoes.  The constant fluctuation of temps {cool than hot) early on through the plants for a loop.   We are having to deal with mildew problems and deformed fruit.

Some varieties are doing better than others.  The currants have yet to produce anything worth picking which is quite a surprise since they are the ones that usually grow like weeds.  The cherry tomatoes are not growing well, either.  Last year we had a cherry tomato that grew over 8 feet with loads of tomatoes... now, it's barely 4 feet with a handful of tomatoes.

We were so looking forward to this tomato season.  But, every year different... Gardening is like playing a slot machine every year: sometimes you hit all four (JACKPOT!) and  others, well, you know how it goes.

The black plum, dr. carolyn, snow white, white wonder, black zebra, cherokee purple, emerald evergreen, sungold & aunt ruby's german green are doing quite well.

To be continued....
