And I loved your mug to mosaic picture frame slide show too!
I've relished the smashing of pottery before, but never seem to have the gumption to take it to the level of artform -- my shards usually wind up as bottom filler for big pots (so I don't have to use so much soil)! Good job, Rae!

Came inside from working on this week's landscaping project. It was 4PM so turned on Oprah. Her show today included a segment on bride burning in India, where women are burned by their husbands when their families cannot continue to pay demanded dowry... Most of these women die or live the rest of their lives as outcasts and burdens on their family. She had other segments about the sad plight of other women around the world.

Very sad for these women. But at the same time, grateful for the respect and opportunities I've been given.

Welcome, Rae! What Jamie said above is so true, the great thing about this site (and the people behind it) is that they are so encouraging! We can all make a difference by the little things we do (even if sometimes considered odd!).

And I hear what you say: "I'll never get any work done at my job now!" (Almost true for me too!!!)

Hi Jamie!

It's great to see you working toward your goal of having chickens and ducks!

I had a good chuckle at your account of city hall's reaction.  Typical....   Sometimes I'm not so sure they know what they are doing all the time.

Hey... just so you know, I know for a certain that the city of Los Angeles' codes state that five or less chickens can be kept without a permit.    So, you can always claim you are under the Los Angeles city codes.

That's my backup just in case I get in trouble with Pasadena.   Pasadena after all, is a LA county city!

I totally understand about the Bantam/Standard problem.  I had to face that myself.  I'm sure you'll make the best decision no matter what you decide.

If I had to raise chickens all over again, I'd probably go a different route than what I did before, but things worked out anyway.  By the way.... usually if you buy 6 bantams chicks, it almost always ends up half males and half females -- well, that's what people tell me!

Also, if you don't get any takers on spliting the duck order, let me know.  I may be able to help you out in finding them good homes.  Oh, and just prepare to receive SEVEN ducklings as Clearview Hatchery throws in an extra duckling just in case.  The seventh little baby they threw in for me was a runt and didn't last the trip - so be prepared for that too.   It was sad to see that little girl die.  She arrived weak and died the next day no matter what I did for her.

     Good luck!
     Jordanne

TUESDAY AM FRUGAL MUSINGS:
*Keeping to oneself when it is needed.
*Staying the course for the long run.
*Starting from seed, divisions, or cuttings rather than buying plants.
*Keeping a small worm compost box inside so they don't all freeze! (Protect the investment )
*Using an abundance of house plants for air freshener! (It's true -- they clean the air!)
