Parents' and educators' guide

For the benefit of parents, educators, and anyone working on these projects with younger people, I have attempted to categorize them by relative safety. Please keep in mind that I am not an educator, so use your best judgement on any of these projects before attempting them yourself or, especially, with children.

At the bottom of each project page is a symbol or group of symbols that give an estimate as to the level of the project, as well as certain potential hazards involved with the projects. They are defined as:

Kid safe - These projects are relatively safe and usually appropriate for younger children. Note precautions accompanying individual projects.

Moderate - Appropriate for older children. They may involve some electricity, chemicals, or other component unsuitable for young children.

Advanced - More difficult projects, as well as those involving dangers of electricity, toxicity, etc.

Downright dangerous - Projects listed for knowledge basis only. These are best left well enough alone. Stay away!

More than one of the above symbols appearing on a page indicates a range.

Involves the use of chemicals or toxic materials. Refer to any warnings or safety precautions involving the particular chemical used.

Electricity involved. Electricity can cause severe injuries or even death, so take all possible precautions.

Fire or heat. Handle all sources of heat safely. Avoid use of flame near combustible materials.

Live animals or plants involved. Take every precaution to avoid injury to yourself or to the animals.
