Versions: e-Forms chip v3.00, Know to Novell 3.11 with patches installed: Other versions are probably also affected
Description: Network is used to redirect data to HP 5Si through HP JetDirect card with firmware version A.03.16. When downloading MICR.TTF or MICR4.SFP files to e-Forms chip v3.00 printer shows FS OPEN then INTERNAL TEST and the Network queue shows job completed, then shows 0 of xxx bytes sent. The printer continuously reboots. Deleting the print job from the Network queue caused the printer to stop rebooting (!) The fonts are installed and do work.
It is normal for this printer to restart once after downloading new forms. We think that what may be happening is that the Novell printer server is getting a message from the jet direct card that the printer is "unavailable" or is "restarting" BEFORE novell has finished sending the print job to the printer. (May be due to some buffer-size issue) and the Novell system thinks the printer was powered off (or something) in the middle of the job and so resends the job from the beginning - causing the cycle to repeat.
Workaround: 1. Delete the print queue after each download. 2. Update the version of firmware in the JetDirect card to firmware version A.04.xx. 3. Connect the printer through a print-server to the network, using the parallel port.
If the problem persists, print Novell configuration of print server and capture command.
