Number: 612 11/10/97 "INV PERS" or "INVALID PERSONALITY" when attempting
to program forms to e-Forms chip
Description: After installing a e-Forms chip into an
HP LaserJet series 6P or earlier printer and attempting to initialize or
program it, or after copying an .ALL file to the printer, the printer front
panel displays the message "INVALID PERSONALITY." (This message indicates
that a SIMM for the wrong printer is installed.)
Workaround:
-
Verify that the SIMM is labeled as being for the printer in which you are
installing it. For example: If you are using an HP Laserjet 5, 5M or 5N the
SIMM should be labeled "HP LJ 5"; for the 5Si or 5SiMX, the label
should be "HP LJ 5Si"; for the 5P or 5MP look for "HP LJ 5P"; for the 6P
or 6MP it should read "HP LJ 6P"; or for any of the LaserJet 4 series (including
4, 4+, 4P, 4MP, 4Si, 4SiMX, 4V, etc..) the SIMM may not be labeled or will
say "HP LJ 4." If the SIMM is not for the printer you are using it in,
STOP and contact your
sales rep for a replacement. Do not return the SIMM without shipment
instructions and an RMA number. No other action will be
successful.
-
If the SIMM is for the correct printer, verify that the SIMM is
installed correctly then
proceed to the next step.
-
Reiniialize the SIMM and print a status page. If the same message appears,
continue to Step 4. If the message does not appear, reinitializeand print
the status page again.
-
The SIMM must be damaged or defective. Contact
technical support or your
sales rep.
