Is it possible to read a PIC 16F84 that has had the security bit set? I have been told that lifting one pin and applying a variable DC voltage will enable the chip for reading. Which pin ? and how much voltage? Thanks for any hints. Dave

http://ibn.mybesthost.com/4x_16_segment_display.brd Hello. This is my rather messyly layed out PIC16F874 & F84 based system. The system is designed to allow the display of the time/short messages. The PIC16F84 is there to multiplex the displays and uses a seriel connection to the PIC16F84 to inform it of where it is. The PIC874 is the main control with the 4 multiplexed displays being hooked up to it. The whole thing uses the 16 Segment, Single Digit Alpha-Numeric Display 0.5 Inch (12.7 mm) sourced from www.fairchildsemi.com and its PDF file is at www.fairchildsemi.com/ds/MS/MSA5480C.pdf. I do hope it is common cathode!

As you may notice the boards main copper-tracks are all on the rear of the board, as to aid visual debugging on a finished product, instead of it being obscured by the componants.

I could not FTP to your server, so I FTPed it to mine: http://ibn.mybesthost.com/4x_16_segment_display.brd

This is the first item I have fully developed and would like to know if it will work. If anyone wants the schematic, look at http://ibn.mybesthost.com/Mark1.sch
