I recently bought an ICD from Omilex for the PIC16F877. Hooked it up and all has been working fine for about a month. Went to bed last night, everything was fine. Woke up this morning and tried to step thru a program and I now receive the "error performing requested operation" message. I looked through some posts here about the issue and tried all of the following for the entire day: * made sure the "set debug mode" box was checked. * saw a post that said uncheck the debug box, go in to simulator mode, then go back and check the box...no luck. * NOP is first instruction * using CCSPICC with ICD=TRUE on the device line. * Tried different xtals (a few 4mHz and 20mHz ones) * made sure the xtal fuse settings were correct. * pulled my hair out (twice) Can't step or run without getting the error. If I do a Self test it reports that the debug module does not exist. I can program in non-debug mode and the program works that way so the chip works (I also went out and bought a new chip and that does the same thing). Also, if it ever does allow me to step, it jumps to some unknown high address and all the registers get loaded with hex 47. Voltages are 4.85 and 12.89 This seems to be a common problem and I can't figure out what, if anything, I am doing wrong. Could the voltages be wrong, the Olimex ICD, XTAL, fuses, sun spots? Hi,

I'm fiddling with CCS C compiler to see if I like it and want to know why when I try to run my PIC ICD does it start to execute the code at Program Counter 0x02. This is as seen in the program watch window after a "reset" - always.

This is a real nuisance 'cos the two preceding lines "movlw 0x00 & movwf 0x0A" are skipped and they are needed to set the page control PCLATH to zero. Hence the goto line for "void main ()" in PC 0x02 actually gets added to 0x1800 (which is page 3), and therefore of course my code cannot run without lengthy and painful work arounds.

Anyone out there kknow what I'm doing wrong & how I can get past this hassle?

Regards
Ant
