I have searched the archive for an answer to this question but not found anything so please forgive me if I have missed the obvious answer…. I want to set up a software development system with a slick edit/execute cycle. I have installed MPLAB and have studied home-brew programmer circuits, and understand the principle. (I am interested in 16F62x, but believe many of the published designs could be adapted to this chip with only pin-out modifications). I notice that MPLAB has a PICSTART+ button that invokes a loader for that proprietory programmer. My question is – is there a design for a home-brew programmer (with rs232 connection data) that is compatible with the PICSTART+ loader and that will work with MPLAB if I just plug it into a COM port ? Alternatively – Is there a design for a programmer, with support loader software that can be ‘bolted on’ to MPLAB to give a one-button programming function. On the third hand – is there an assembler/loader alternative that can be used with a home-brew programmer ??? Does anybody have any suggestions on what PIC/EEPROM combination I could use and possibly an idea of how difficult it would be to write some software to start the data dump and collect it on the PC? Is there software like this already available? Thanks for your help, I've never done PIC serial communications before so I'm a bit lost.
