James Newton[JMN-EFP-786] Questions:
Contributing causes:
- Bowel Infections: Yeast (no sugar, pearl acidophilus twice a day for half a year) or bacterial (antibiotics)
- Food alergies / sensitivities: Smaller meals, more often. Try cutting out, for MONTHS, not days, the following: Dairy, beans, broccoli fructose, alcohol, caffeine. e.g. Eat only Bananas, Rice, cooked Apples and Toast (BRAT) with good vitamine pills. Maybe lean meats like turkey, chicken, shrimp. Also DO drink 8 full 16oz glasses of water each day.
- Stress: Practice breathing from the bottom, yoga, massage, excercise. Hypnotherapy? Acupuncture?

Foods to eat for better digestion:
- Fermented Foods: Yogurt and Miso with "live and active cultures" for benificial bacteria, but only if lactose is not an issue. Otherwise, take the pills.
- Ginger: Fresh ginger reduces spasms and has COX-2 inhibitors to reduce inflammation. Add as a spice in rice and soup, eat crystallized chunks or drink tea.
- Omega 3 foods: Cold water fish (salmon) or flax oil or walnuts.
- Rice: Rice has ferulic acids which may help heal the digestive system. Basmati has the most.

Avoid:
- Spicy or acidic foods: Tomatoe sauces, coffee, chocolate, alcohol, cafein, citrus, etc...
- Relaxants: Peppermint etc.. since they relax the lower esophageal sphincter. Fatty foods also do this and they slow digestion which keeps food in the stomach longer.

Good foods that you probably should eat:
- Bananas: Potassium, fiber. If you look, in most southern states of the USA, you can find local trees. You haven't lived until you have tasted one that ripened on the tree.
- Rice: Cheap, stores well (add salt to keep out bugs, rinse off before cooking). To cook without fear or special wares: Set a calander into the top of a pot. Add two parts water to one part rice below, and fresh or frozen veggies above then set a lid down into the calander to trap the steam. Set on high just long enough to boil, then turn to simmer and leave for 15 to 45 minutes.
- Apples: Cooked not raw. Try with margerin and a little brown sugar. Or in a pie. Or blend into a sauce.
- Cantaloupe: 1/4 per day for all the Vitamin A and C you need.
- Sweet Potatoes: Carotenoids, Vitamin C, potassium, and fiber. More like carrots than potatoes. Try with apple sauce or pineapple.
- Oranges: Folic acid, fiber, and Vitamin C.
- Beans: Garbanzo, pinto, black, navy, kidney or lentils. Protein, iron, folic acid and (of course) fiber. Cook well; avoid the cost of heating by using a solar oven. Chew well.
- Spinach or Kale: Calcium, Vitamin C. If you can grow your own spinach, wate until the outer leaves just start to take on a yellowish tint and then trim them away leaving the inner parts to take thier place. They will be almost sweet and nothing like the canned or frozen junk.
