There have been several requests asking how to make a Windows NT boot disk for an Alpha-based system. Here are steps here for both an Intel-based system and an Alpha-based system.

i386: Format a disk in NT (this step is essential). Copy NTLDR, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini to the disk. You can now boot with this disk to access your NT installation (you have bypassed the hard disk boot sector).

Alpha: Format a disk in NT. Copy osloader.exe and hal.dll to the disk (the system BIOS performs the hardware detection on Alpha-based systems, so you don't need to include the ntdetect.com file). You can now boot with this disk to access your NT installation.
