After a good number of years programming 8051s I felt it was finally time to switch to PICs, especially when Philips decided to drop my favourite 5051 derivative.
I have now been working (or rather playing) with PIC microcontroller for a couple of months and I must say I am positively converted. I use a combination of Microchips MPLAB, a PICSTART Plus programmer and Microchips ICD hardware to develop code for the 16F877 and 16F628. The ability to simulate code, use the in circuit debugger and flash program memory is an absolute winner. I feel the 16F628 deserves more attention than it is currently getting, as it is a very cost effective chip and has the added advantage of using an internal RC oscillator. This keeps component count down and maximises the number of I/O ports available to the user (16 I/O pins on a 18 pin device).
I will be adding code here as soon as I get up and running properly.
Happy PICing!
