With the death of support by HP, HPGL may become a thing of the past.  It is good to see someone taking the time to document how HPGL worked.  Someone, somewhere needs to commit their copy of the HPGL drivers for the various pen plotters to the HP Museum so we don't also lose the means to use these plotters.  The older pen plotters, although not as good as today's plotters - are far more durable than anyone imagined.  Not so the software to use them.  Those are all but gone.
