What's New?

Capitalizing on the new functionality in Internet Information Server version 4.0, Microsoft Index Server version 2.0 introduces the following features:

Support for Active Server Scripting: Opens the door to greater flexibility and power in designing dynamic query forms, creating complex and precise queries, and managing query results. See Active Server Pages.
Support for Querying in SQL: Offers an alternative to the Internet Data Query (.IDQ) forms available in previous versions of Index Server. See SQL Access to Index Server Data.
Improved Administration with the Microsoft Management Console: Allows you to configure Index Server with a new Microsoft® Management Console (MMC) administration interface. The MMC simplifies many administration tasks and adds several new administrative operations. See Administration.
Searching Internet Mail: The NNTP component of the Microsoft® Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack indexes mail files through Index Server and processes queries by IMap4Rev1-compatible mail clients, such is Microsoft® Outlook Express, Microsoft® Outlook 98, and Netscape Messenger 4.0.
Improved Robustness in Property Cache: Adds a temporary file on disk to minimize corruption of the property cache during a dirty shutdown. With this temporary file, the property cache can be restored without re-indexing the corpus. To learn more about handling the property cache, see Caching Properties.
Improved Response Time: Returns query results almost twice as fast as in earlier versions of Index Server.
Multiple Scopes: Lets you configure your site so that several directories in different trees can be searched simultaneously. You can also exclude directories from a scope. See Variables in Forms and in .Idq Files.
Content Filters for Microsoft® Office 97: Keeps pace with the latest technology from Microsoft by allowing you to search documents created in any Office 97 application. A PDF filter is available for downloading from Adobe® Systems Incorporated on the Adobe Web site.
