+++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ InetServ, the 32-bit Windows 95 Program/Windows NT Service Internet Server. +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ +++ Welcome to InetServer 3.0 If you are reading this then installlation is already complete. This text file will assist you in seting up InetServer 3.0. Start the program from the Start Menu/Programs/InetServ The program will open and you will see a group of four buttons. CLick on About first and click the button "initialize registry". This is necessary for InetServer to run. CLick on Configuration. A new window will open with many options available. Most of these can be left at default except for a few mandatory changes. Which are detailed below. hostnames Enter your hostname here. This can be the default mysystem.org or your domain name. CLick add to enter a new domain name. Mail handling I suggest that you check the box labelled "send mails of unknown users to" and choose a user. Of course you must have set up a user first. "send a copy of all mails to" can be overwhelming if you have a high volume of mail. "Send error messages to:" should be left as is, or unless you have another account such as postmaster that you wish to send them to. Service ports These are the default ports that the program uses. If you are running a seperate program such as a webserver that has mail support you may need to change these or if you are running a proxy they may need to be changed. If you don't know i suggest leaving them "as is" and testing the program. User Interface "SHow really quit?.." is checked. This is just in case you try to close the program by mistake. I suggest leaving it checked "Hide to system Tray" is a personal decision. But it's nice to have it checked and minimized away so it's not cluttering up you desktop. "Busy Symbol" is checked by default. I suggest you leave this as you will know when InetServer is busy and active. Log to "Screen" is for viewing traffic as it comes in. If you are running a slower machine or InetServer is very busy you may want to uncheck this as it may speed things up. "File" will log all actiivity to a file. This can be very useful for determining if a user is abusing the mail system. "Log all SMTP/POP3 commands" is unchecked. This can help in troubleshooting if you are having a problem. It will also create a very large file if you have a large volume of users. Relaying support This section will not be covered here at this time. Enable/Disable services This section will not be covered here at this time. Rehash userfile "ALL ____ minutes" will rehash the userfile and add or delete any users from the database. The default is 5 minutes. User Setup You see the user samply with the password bf5ae54f. This is an encrypted password. At the bottom you see login name login password Flags Comment To add a new user type the login name and password and click on add. The comment section is for administrative purposes as is the Flags section. Flags will allow or deny a user to login to InetServer using telnet or telnet operator status for remote administration of users. MAPI will not be covered here at this time. I will do my best to finish the help file as soon as possible. THis file was written as a "patch" to help users learn how to set up InetServer. Please check the InetServer website often for updates to the program at http://www.escape.ca/~avtronic/messageboard
