Loading the Index Server Snap-In

After you have installed IIS and Index Server, you should load the Index Server snap-in into Microsoft Management Console (MMC). This tool gives you a simplified way of creating, adjusting, and monitoring catalogs and directories.

To load the Index Server snap-in
  1. In MMC, select Console Root.
  2. In the Console menu, select Add/Remove Snap-in.
  3. On the Standalone property page of the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box, click the Add button.
  4. In the Add Standalone Snap-in dialog box, select Index Server, and click OK.
  5. The Connect to Computer dialog box appears, with Local computer selected.

  6. If you want the Index Server snap-in to manage a computer other than the local computer (the one that MMC is running on), select Another computer, and type the name of the computer.
  7. Click Finish.
  8. Index Server appears in the Add/Remove Snap-in dialog box.

  9. Click OK.
  10. The Index Server snap-in appears in MMC.
