I believe it falls into an age-old problem of trying to apply financial
value to something that is inherently emotional. (cost of a human life is
the classic example)
Some people will reason that if it costs more than existing energy
solutions then it is a non-starter.
Some people will reason that we have to do it no matter the cost.
Both are wrong. Reality lies somewhere in the middle.
