I have had a little play with kicad, and quite like it. I haven't done
any serious work with it yet, but have some PCBs I want to do in the
foreseeable future. I am holding off at the moment as version 6 is due
for release in the very near future and seems to have a number of
improvements.

another nice thing with Kicad is it will also run on windows.

If you do decide to get serious with Kicad there is a guy in Australia
has written a good book https://techexplorations.com/so/kicada/ and I
presume he will be updating this for v6. He has done a rolling review
of the beta version of v6 on his blog (referred to as v5.99) so seems
to be well up with it. The ebook is available seperately from his
course, and the profits go to funding Kicad.
