Good day to all. We have been using Dow DOWSIL=99 1-2577 RTV=20 Silicone Conformal Coating since the early=20 '80s. It is wonderful stuff and we have had no=20 failures even in equipment that is several decades old. Unfortunately, the cost for this product has=20 finally reached the point where we have to seek=20 less expensive alternatives. Our latest quote is=20 Can $530 plus shipping for a 1 US gallon (3.78L) container. Can anyone suggest a good quality conformal coat=20 that costs less than that? Hopefully, significantly less. The DOW product remains soft and flexible after=20 curing. We find that is a desirable quality - we=20 aren't interested in something that becomes hard=20 and brittle either immediately after curing or=20 after being in the field for a long time=20 period. In other words, lacquer is not an option. What we also like about the DOW product is that=20 the device remains repairable - we can remove the=20 coating in a small area, do our re-work, then=20 reapply more coating. This new material bonds=20 readily with the old to maintain a water-tight seal. I used to see some form of wax used in some=20 Asian-made products in years gone by. I have no=20 idea if something like that is able to be=20 approved by CSA or other certifying=20 authorities. I'm willing to find out if I can=20 find a source of that material and its datasheet. One of the products that we also used to use came=20 from GE. I'm about to start looking at that as well. Suggestions gratefully accepted.
