NASA ISS photo of NZ South Island in 2003 after a '50-year' blizzard. (Rarity, not duration :-).) Relatively few New Zealanders see the impressive expanse of the NZ Southern Alps + Kaikoura Range and many people have no real impression of how extensive and rugged the mountains are. An Auckland-Christchurch flight and a window seat on a clear day provides awesome views. In Christchurch on a clear winter day the alps form a 200 or so degree backdrop to the city and from a suitable viewing point stretch from horizon to horizon (with the sea taking up the other 160 degrees). I have a many-many-many shot panorama thereof. I should put it online. This is probably the best SI snow photo I've seen - worth saving if such things are of interest. You get a closer view of a fair bit of this in the Lord of the Rings 'lighting the beacons' sequence. https://eoimages.gsfc.nasa.gov/images/imagerecords/67000/67355/NewZealand.A= 2003192.2235.250m.jpg?fbclid=3DIwAR1mJwVQpFXAq0e5yaLgdc7NL2tFhAbsI3w2vwuDKV= zVRwD3ks2UAkQ_h-Y Russell --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
