Now long ago, a young man with a knife attempted to rob a NZ taxi driver. Attempted. My recollection of the published comment of what the driver told the assailant (no doubt with a bit more as well) was ~=3D "I used to kill Germans for a shilling a day and they were better men than you'll ever be."* FWIW. the more I've learned about WW2 the sorrier I've felt for the German rank & file in general in all theatres. I recently watched an older (younger than me) school teacher with a Claymore (Not the "This side towards enemy" type) dealing with 'attacks' from a highly capable and energetic young re-enactment 'assailant' wielding a smaller sword and a shield. Minimal body motion, on every occasion the Claymore seemed to slide slowly and effortlessly into a defensive block and then quite a lot of the time rematerialise inside the attackers sword and against their body. Sobering. I wonder how the Police would react to an old guy unconcealed carrying a Claymore in public. (Actually, I know, without trying :-). ).
