Visible or IR??

Collimated, focused, or bare diodes?

How many do you need? Are unknown sourced doides ok. or do you need
diodes with traceable manufacturers with detailed specs

I do laser comm as a hobby, free space.

I have some very old IR diodes from Philips, bare diodes on small driver
boards that I have no use for and there's no way to get info on the
drivers. There are maybe 20 of them. I have no need for them and the
resale value is very low::>
