Rich, I didn't see it. But if you are working with CMOS chips like the PIC it's almost always better to use chips in the HCT family for interfacing. The reason is that the inputs work properly with TTL voltage levels while the outputs are nearly rail to rail. So a 3.3V input will generate a 5V output.
