I'd say overall my experience learning ARM has been worthwhile. Of course I've mostly been working in C. Comparing the instruction sets, personally, I'd rather write ARM assembler than PIC. Perhaps ARM has more instructions and more registers (and a "lengthy" 32-bit word size). But, I'd consider that more of a blessing than a curse.
