I understand the challenge

It's fairly trivial to do with a dsPIC33...802. 12-bit ADC, 16-bit audio
DAC, a lot of contiguous RAM and/or speed to use a large external=20
RAM

As good as the old bucket brigade devices. In fact because of their
capacitor chain they lose the top end for long delays (slower clock)
whereas the PIC doesn't. This gives you the option of switching in
a low pass filter in the feedback loop for "BBD authenticity" or
having a much crispier repeat echo signal than BBD

I also have a schematic for a PIC32 and audio codec IC which
does echo, reverb, flanging etc
