Note: Added tag. Hi Art, Those MT3608 chips are great. Idle current is practically nothing. Finding = magnetics for high voltage seems like the hardest part to making a high vol= tage supply though. I've taken boards from Harbor Freight electric fly swatters to use as power= supplies for Geiger-Muller tubes. They're pretty cheap (or sometimes free = with coupon) and work OK. Kinda battery hogs though. I haven't figured out = a good way to regulate them yet. Friendly regards, Bob _____________________________________ From: piclist-bounces@mit.edu on behalf of Art Sent: Friday, July 28, 2017 11:13 AM To: piclist@mit.edu Subject: convert step up with inductor to use flyback? Hi all, I recently found a small switching supply that uses a single inductor, provides 2A output and is very cheap ($0.50 each). It's based on the MT3608. It operates at 1.2 MHz, so the physical size of the capacitors and inductor are compact! However, it can only produce 28Vdc, and I need somewhere around 500 to 600Vdc. Can this unit be modified to use a flyback instead, which will yield more voltage?
