I think part of this is determined by the detents, how many, etc. If you ch=
oose an encoder with no detents then there is no way to know what state it =
will stop in.


If it's optical or magnetic, and you loose power to the sensor, then it may=
 not be in the same state when you apply power as it was when shut down.=20
