That use case is perfectly ok with R/2R networks.
What you do when you ground a rung is adding an increment to the current va=
lue.
With 5 switches, you have 32 increments (0:31) of around 3%, so 1% resistor=
s will be good enough (best price).

by using 0402, you minimize the real estate on the PCB, but soldering at ho=
me become a real challenge.
