It's not a distraction, just the opposite. Any familiar music serves to quiet the parts of my mind that are too restless to let me think. I suppose that IS a distraction of sorts. And while the album of choice is by no means quiet nor simple, after 35 odd years of repetition, there is a Pavlovian response now. My brain recognizes the sound and prepares for a specific task, much as hearing "We're off to see the wizard" might lead a person to skip instead of walk. I thought this over while driving to work today, and listening to 2112. I also found a way to simplify some code I wrote last night, quite by accident.
