I'm not sure what the separation usually is. =20 I've had similar thoughts about shield cans on inductors. Not much documentation out there on those subjects. I was winding a small coil last night, about 800T of #30 on a 3" dia glass = tube. Had time to wonder.. Should be interesting. I'll be using a nice stainless steel gazing ball f= or my topload.=20 =20 The amount of magnetic flux coupling is probably not enough since there is = no core material and (I think) the top load is usually separated by a few i= nches from the end of the autotransformer.
