While Micro-USB connectors made some= real steps to fixing unreliability in the physical connection between male= and female connectors, they seem to have neglected the connection between = the female connector and the PCB. (Probably they assumed that this would g= et handed by the packaging/case/etc. But there seem to be an awful lot of = bare boards and/or mediocre case designs that don=92t provide any physical = reinforcement or strain relief to the USB/PCB connection, leaving things to= a few rather small PCB pads=85 The connectors rip right off the boards, u= sually taking some of the traces with them (doubly difficult to repair!) I look for micro-usb connectors with as close to through-hole mounting tabs= as I can get (but they=92re pretty rare.)
