Hi Allen, The inexpensive 120 volt air compressors that one would find for less than = $200(or sometimes even $100) at AutoZone or Wal*Mart or Harbor Fright. Subject: RE: [EE] Electric air compressor power switch I've been following this thread with a bit of both confusion and amusement = (educational not funny kind). I don't know what you call a small compressor= .. My experience has been mostly with moderately sized auto-garage type unit= s down to several gallons. All that I have seen use two separate switches. = One simple toggle switch to apply power and a separate pressure switch to t= urn off the motor when maximum pressure is reached. The second, pressure sw= itch, is quite generic and almost identical to similar units on rural water= pumps, but with much higher pressure levels. Like some water pump switches= some pressure switches also have a mechanical device to hold open the elec= trical contacts and eliminate the need for a separate toggle switch. These = are very simple devices. Some can be found here: https://www.grainger.com/category/ecatalog/N-1z0dozo What exactly are we talking about?
