I heard an EE professional say this:  "You can't just store the energy from=
 solar cells back into the grid.  That's just EE (or did he say solar energ=
y) 101!"  I assume this takes into account you have a winding road going th=
rough both populated and non-populated areas, the distance between that and=
 a particular place to feed it to the grid*, and the energy loss.

* There seems to be this perception that you just connect the solar road po=
int by point along the way to power-line poles and it just feeds back into =
itself.  That doesn't seem right.
