I had this recently but I believe that it is only required if you are openi=
ng an Alipay account. Its quite common practice to ask for proof of ID/Corp=
orate identity when opening an account. Paypal requires proof of ID as well=
, I think that in the UK it is required to comply with the anti-money laund=
ering laws.
