I was not aware of this technology before reading this thread. I just yesterday purchased a Seagate 8 TB "SMR" drive with intentions=20 of putting my saved copies of old TV shows and the rips that I have=20 made of my DVD library. I fully expect that this will be a "Write=20 One Time Only" process by copying existing files from my other=20 drives. Cost was Can $300 plus 4-year In Store Replacement warranty=20 from Memory Express (C$47) + GST I'm very much hoping that these drives turn out to be reliable. I've=20 been getting a lot of drive failures lately and it worries me. I've been getting Memory Express's In Store Replacement warranty for=20 most of my purchases over the past few years and some of those failed=20 drives died within the warranty period. Free replacement but still a=20 huge hassle re-populating the drives with their files. dwayne At 07:11 PM 3/21/2016, RussellMc wrote: >Nag nag ... > >I'm surprised that nobody has an comment on the equal largest available >hard drive aimed at archival & enterprise level storage at a cost per TB >lower than any aternative. > >Does that mean that nobody here has bought and/or is using these? > >Backblace 6 TB Seagate failure rates lom very promising.
