I should buy a new one then, i have had a pk3 from sure electronics for abo=
ut 6 years. At the time i updated my macbook to mavericks, it was a nightma=
re to use.. i had to follow an intricate vodoo ritual every time i plugged =
it and/or i had to change the firmware in but after the update to yosemite =
there was no enchantement that could make the thing work.. not even inside =
a virtual machine.
However I can use it if i boot with the windows partition.

This doesn't happen with all the pickits and the starter kits (with integra=
ted pickit3) i use at work... they work with osx just fine
