My comment before Bob squelches the topic: As my mind and body fall prey to the aging process I have finally turned=20 to reading a little theology and Philosophy. I am enjoying applying the=20 skills and tools that have become commonplace to we Nerds. I think this=20 is likely as well informed and free thinking humans that has ever=20 existed any where. Most of us are free to question everything and=20 compare our observations and history without fear of persecution. We=20 have many choices of who to believe and who not to believe. The history=20 we can verify is more than any scholars before us could even dream of. Unfortunately, most of us fail to see that most religious endeavors=20 start with the best intentions and immediately start to rot into=20 corruption. The cycle repeats with appalling predictability. If we=20 compare and contrast the dominant religions we find that it is not the=20 differences that makes us cruel to each other but the mutual positions=20 we take regarding hatred for those who are somehow different than us.=20 Math 101 taught us to factor out the common terms so we could better=20 understand complex problems. That don't seem to happen with the human=20 condition. De Cartes advised that we must challenge every thing at=20 least once in the search for the truth. In my personal pursuit of the=20 truth I feel as though I have a grasp on the basic truths but I have=20 little hope for we mortals to improve the conditions. The conditions are=20 as normal to our existence as the wind and the tides. I have noted the greatest atrocities are committed by the masses, not=20 the individuals. If you wish to improve the lot of your children perhaps=20 it would be worthwhile to start by thinking for yourself rather than=20 outsourcing what is most important and what you do best. When my Hemlock=20 arrives I will propose a toast. You folks have been among my greatest resources. I doubt I will bring=20 harm to you if I choose to pray you "Live Long and Prosper". May we all=20 have this and many more seasons to share with friends and family. PS for Bob: A special thank you for being a thoughtful gatekeeper for=20 our collective mind.
