Good day to all. I'm helping one of my coworkers with a project that he is dealing=20 with. We are providing motors and controls for a sand-blasting=20 machine that cleans the inside of pipe. We've been struggling with this for several months now. We started=20 with the original machine design as supplied by the engineering firm=20 and picked a couple of medium-sized Nema 34 motors and paired them=20 with Geckodrive stepper drive modules. These work well in our shop. Unfortunately, it turns out that the company actually building the=20 machine thought that the design as supplied by the other engineering=20 firm was too "wussy" and they made changes. Big changes. The net=20 result is that they need motors MUCH larger than originally specified. We brought in the largest Nema 34 motor that we could find - from=20 Anaheim Automation - this is a 1200 Oz-Inch motor. Way too small. I went searching on eBay and found a stepper motor / driver=20 combination from Longs Motor (China). The motor is a size Nema 42=20 and is rated at 4120 Oz-Inches. Customer says that it's barely large=20 enough and they want something with a little more muscle. The idea=20 is to have a motor and drive combination that is larger than=20 required, then turn the current limit down as needed to reduce the=20 motor torque to a suitable value. I had considered using a servo motor and drive - I have a couple of=20 large servo motors here that have WAY more torque than is=20 required. The problem is safety - if an encoder or its wiring fails,=20 the servo runs open-loop. This is not acceptable. So: I'm looking for a stepper motor larger than 4120 Oz-Inches. I=20 don't know where to look and I'm hoping that someone can suggest=20 where to go looking.
