What follows is merely opinion and probably a departure from the [EE] tag. I suspect I'm bending it enough to raise admin eyebrows, and would appreciate it if you pushed it over to [OT] if you feel the need to reply. Granted, This probably violates IndeGoGo TOS (using "probably" as IANAL) Calling this a "security device" probably bends the language to it's breaking point, if not beyond. I can think of zero situations where this would be helpful - and lots of situations where it can be used maliciously. The question I'm pondering is whether or not it is my job to tell them not to do it. I'm not their parent. Designing and building such a device is _at best_ a learning experience. Using such a device on your own computer is pointless destruction. Using it on someone else's computer is criminal (literally, destruction of private property, severity depends on your jurisdiction) "Leaving it out" for somebody else to use... is at least negligent handling of a dangerous object. Again, jurisdictionaly dependent, but should be prosecute-able. (try leaving a loaded gun around where someone can get to it, see if they can find something to charge you with.) But the other side of this is "we all know" you should not plug strange devices into your computer. Even without the electrical damage aspect, there are a bunch of known (and I can only guess, unknown) attack vectors for malware, viruses and other nasties through a flash drive and the autoplay "feature". So, anybody practicing good hygiene shouldn't have an issue.... I have no idea where the quote comes from, but... Good judgment comes from experience. Experience comes from bad judgment. The real problem is that, at least while it's happening, you can never tell which side of that circle you are on. Think I'll go back to pondering my navel now. -Denny --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
