A huge advantage of Python is that it is platform-agnostic, open source, and mature. The installer is all that is needed between Windows, Linux and Mac. It has a huge user base with lots of support. And it's free. Processing and Xojo are relatively new with small user bases. That might not be much of an issue if the app is pretty much a throw-away, but small software outfits disappear with alarming frequency. VB, of course, is Windows only. Also, when it comes to moving outside the database/forms realm, VB can get pretty messy. When you say within its comfort space, tho, it can be pretty fast and easy. You might consider Mono/C#. I don't know how ugly making the GUI gets, but M$ has gone to great lengths to make C# development fast, and I presume much of that can be duplicated in Mono. Outside Windows, tho, C# is also kind of a niche player. There is also a pretty big learning hump to get over to take advantage of the productivity features. --McD --=20 http://www.piclist.com/techref/piclist PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist .
