Hi Rich, If it has an HD44780 or equivalent chipset, then it probably has a 14 or 16 pin connection and follows the standard pinout. The extra two pins on the 16 version are for a backlight. You can make an educated guess if pin 1 is ground and pin 2 is V+ by looking for a ground connection to the metal bezel, and if there's a decoupling cap V+ to ground.
