This topic has me so worked up. I'll avoid the rant and keep this a bit terse. I've got a better idea, instead of public shaming how about we use the moment as a common sense teaching moment. Isaac, this isn't directed at you, more to society in general. I would really love to see those who profiled shamed but you can't shame an idiot. They'll only become more proud. At some point we need to have the people in charge step back and put a stop to things when they get too far out of hand. The current environment only perpetuates the status quo of fear. If this were not in the news this kid would have only learned that making a mistake gets you into trouble and can ruin your life. This sounds more like corporate CYA rather than a learning environment and as long as we have this kind of environment nothing good can come of this. I try to teach our maker space participants that making mistakes will happen and that we should use them as a learning tool. This moment only seems to teach, don't try, you won't fail and you'll keep in line. ....
