I found the link I was really looking for: rapid hand firing of report rock= ets from Spain again, "Interesting" technique! http://youtu.be/-HoG3SZY4YQ On 3 Aug 2015, at 16:07, Robin Bussell > wrote: Nice find! I've not seen a video of that with so many malfunctions before. The company I'm a part time pyro with, here in the UK, got commissioned to= make some eight foot versions for a "lads and gadgets" type TV program ear= lier this year after one such video got really popular on facebook. It was fun! We even managed to satisfy the producers and make one blow up t= o order after prototypes revealed that a 16mm diameter choke on the motor w= ould provide enough lift whereas a 15mm choke would provide just a bit too = much internal pressure. Interestingly, static testing didn't really help much either, when the whol= e thing was rotating the chokes could bung up with slag and motors would ex= plode in flight that were perfectly ok on the bench. The show goes out in October so no video links allowed yet I'm afraid, it'l= l be interesting to see how the TV story compares with reality :) We used bamboo as a mounting for hefty cardboard tube motors, it looks like= the Girandolas shown here have the centre strut packed with composition wi= th angled vent holes perhaps ... no one ever gives nice juicy tech close-up= s of this sort of thing :) For those that like their pyro there's a very promising looking film in the= editing stage now called Passfire, they have been around the world to some= very unusual pyro events and seem to be making a decent documentary: http= ://www.veverkabros.com/Passfire.html Out sometime this year I believe. As I'm on, I'll finish with some more unusual European pyro videos for you: Maltese launching a 36 inch shell, biggest outside of japan, a "shell of sh= ells" too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DTby8N2R1LbI Many many big bang rockets launched in the middle of town in Spain, escalat= es nicely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DqvbtgjuhOtc The same but at night: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DzTmFlX0GELo One last one, 30 mins of fantastic work by my good friends at Jubilee Firew= orks who have just been pronounced winners of the prestigeous Montreal worl= d fireworks championships with this display: https://vimeo.com/133303982 The firing system used on that show is "FireOne" which uses a two wire inte= rface to supply power and firing data to capacitive discharge units that ca= n fire up to 32 channels, these units are connected up in parallel up to 20= firing modules per wire pair. This display would have been using a firing = mode whereby the firing units are pre loaded with their firing orders just = before show time and the data sent down the wire pair would be timecode rat= her than direct firing instructions. This way the bus doesn't get too loade= d with data and many cues can be fired absolutely at once when needed. It's= a good system and each firing box has a few pics in it plus an FPGA per tw= o wire power/ control channel ( he said, dragging the post back on topic a= bit ).
