Hi all, for some weeks my desktop has been turning off. Especially, and it seems only, when I try to play media. Videos, recording sound off the web, during a game etc. I can't watch Youtube or even read some newspapers or other sites with embedded video. Some times a Restart (from XP Desktop) actually turns the PC off Looking into the 3D modelling programs in last fortnight revealed that they too will crash the machine Otherwise I can play around with any other non-media program all day. For example Eagle. I have a job which needs to be done fairly urgently - I'm a day away - so I'm reluctant to pull the PC apart at the moment I thought it might have been a problem with Flash or a card but none of the tests/fixes/upgrades seemed to make any difference. A friend suggested a memory problem, so I dug out the bootable Memtest 386+ CD. During every single test (tried it 5 times), the PC crashes at some point. Just powers down and can't be restarted for many seconds. Is this a big hairy finger of Doom pointing at bad memory ? Seems to rule out anything Windows related. From what I've read about Memtest it should get through the test, and report errors at the end. Had a quick Google but didn't see any reference to it doing anything else. The Memtest forum is concerned only with s/w, not h/w issues At the moment I have 2GB, but had thought about upping to 4GB before all this, so memory was on the To Do list anyway.
