No desire to be alarmist - the prospect and probabilities of earthquakes on and near the US/Canadian West Coast has been long discussed and is well known *of *although not perhaps so well known *about. *This has been 'in the news again' recently due to publicity given to the comments made by one scientist. There are MANY people and sites discussing the probable magnitude and timing of a future US West Coast earthquake. The page cited below appears to my entirely amateur eye to be better than many. Its main value is probably the extensive user commentary - along with the usual typical hype and rubbish there is some some excellent 'expert' comment and discussion and many links. Worth looking through with due care. http://bit.ly/USNWQUAKE full link at end NB: Ignore site it is on which is essentially irrelevant. Among other things the discussion touches on Tsunami evacuation plans. People who live in potentially affected areas would be wise to decide in advance what if any action may be desirable should thge need every arise. I live 1/3 of a world away from the area concerned, but found the material and discussion interesting. Even with a rather rapid skim/read through I learned a useful amount more on the subject.
