You could get a second laptop.  New laptops of somewhat questionable comput=
ing ability can be had for under $200 these days, and you should be able to=
 get a used laptop for somewhere between =93free=94 (for =93older, with cer=
tain things no longer working=94) and your desired price point=85

As you buy new laptops, you can rotate them through (old =93screen=94 trash=
ed, old laptop becomes screen for new laptop, etc.)

This would give you a lot more flexibility for what your second screen can =
do.
I=92m pretty sure that there are lots of options for popping up a second sc=
reen on a different computer.
