Train is your friend. Fast efficient cheap. Get a day ticket thing - mainly as a time saver. ________ *[MUST SEE] electronics* * Does anyone know if there are any electronics markets worth going to? * *Sim Lim Tower*Electronics in all forms from components to whole systems. Prices very variable. Some excellent. A great experience regardless. Vast About 10 minutes easy walk from EW12 Bugis. For Sim Lim Get off train at Bugis EW12 - runs to/from airport - say 30 minutes I think you change for the airport at EW4 but there is no way to miss it - well announced and many people change trains there. https://foursquare.com/v/sim-lim-tower-%E6%A3%AE%E6%9E%97%E5%A4%A7%E5%BB%88= /4b3c506df964a520c98325e3 My Google's std zoomable map of all over. Good. Green squares are MTR (or was that MRT) stations https://www.google.co.nz/maps/search/sim+lim+tower+electronics/@1.314995,10= 3.9044691,15z ________________________ *[MUST SEE] *If you are anything like interested in WW2 history the Changi museum is sobering stunning upsetting fantastic terrible. Depending on your disposition it may take several hours after leaving before you have to try hard not to violently attack or flee from certain Asian tourists whose fault it all, of course, was not. Agh. Wow. If you can manage not to cry you have no clue at all what it was all about. Agh. ______________ *[MUST NOT SEE]* If you like loud parties hype superficial glam dear food glitz hoopla ... then Sentosa Island may be just the thing. Otherwise, there is a vast amount better to be done with your day,. __________________ *[MUST MUST **SEE]* Must must must see and it's hard to miss it is Gardens by the Bay. In some ways very flashy hypey fakey too much $ per resut **BUT** so much $ that result is astounding. The outdoor tower thingies and walkway are astounding. Amazing at bnight which does not help you. Idoor house are vast and amazing - the tropical house with ****WATERFALL****, **WALKWAY** and more is *AsToUnDiNg*. Try not to not get wet - its part of the fun. ___________ Jurong Bird park is excellent. (Actually *EXCELLENT*) _________ *[MUST MUST MUST SEE] if this is your thing.* *CHINESE GARDEN:* Catch the train to station EW25 which is named "Chinese Garden" (of course) - hop off trains and follow path through the park into the Chinese Garden. This is possibly the best Chinese Garden I have ever seen. It is utterly marvellous lovely astounding pretty well presented nice peaceful ... . And also very very good. If I had to see one thing in Singapore it might be this. Deep end how much you like such things. Adjoins "Japanese Garden". I guess I roll them together in my mind. https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@1.3363781,103.7326984,1709m/data=3D!3m1!1e3 If you are lucky yoy may see a flying tree snake (I did, to my amazement), a lizard thing larger tha should be inside city limits (3 - 6 feet range ?) big. Friendly Phllippinos taking a brief moment off in their life of N years of slavery so they can send money home at rates they cannot get there but low by local standards. Possibly about here https://www.google.co.nz/maps/@1.3380211,103.7283016,221m/data=3D!3m1!1e3 there's a turtle/tortoise/what would I know complex which is impressive in spite of itself. Sit a moment on the plain plank deck just off the pond surface and cast a handful of supplied food across the water surface so it lands in many places at once. Oh wow! Feed a whole very large cucumber to a tortoise that moves at sloth speed but loves cucumber and would I think take your finger off in the process if you were silly enough to let it. ___________________________ Raffles hotel - worth a quick sprint past if you like such BUT it is rererebuilt and what you see probably never saw Raffles. There's a big wheel there that I have not ridden. The Marin Bay hotel MUST be gawked at. Big curved impossible towers with a boat like shape spanning them at top with an infinity pool to give some heart attacks (needlessly). Good for photos of while walking past. Super super imressive. China town. -Not really in the time. Too std and formulaic and shopsish. Some good food - but thats EVERYwhere. Little India - only if you have not seen much Indian. Small mosque where I persuaded loud large (to my surprise) profane young M&F Japanese tourists to leave because they were so so embararssing and the owners/residents/ worshipers just ignored them. (I have been thrown out of mosques oin occasion and genertally constrained and controlled when allowed to enter. This was a plasant and unusual experuience but the younguns spoiled it. Arab street - almost worth it for the food. Some good sghts at night. Hookah smokers, strobe street lighted entertainers, ... . Zoo good. You won't get to Pulau Ubin (*boat ride - between mainland and Singapore). Hire mountain bikes, see some authentic houses which are essentially museums. Meet a rather tame "wild boar". Be astounded to find at far end a BMX track with "Grassy Knoll" as one section. Another trip. __________________________ If it happens then Changi village is at the airport end and has vast food hall and more food. But fun-est thing is aircraft for airport come in from sea on Malayan side (over Tekong Island I guess) low low low over sea, lower over land. You feel like they are flying through the trees. Not usually though. On beach they are fun to see comin and in streets behind they appear through gaps in tress as they final into Changi airport just behind.
