I don't have any control over where the FTL decides to put the
data but it should be block-aligned. And of course it does always
play properly after a format. From the outside no data seems to
have changed. The FAT is the same, and files match the originals

As James has mentioned, a lot of the FTL's activities are not
able to be accessed and examined. All that's available is the user
interface. If the FTL is playing up there's not a lot you can do
about it
