When I worked with PDP-8, we had ASR-33 and DecWriters. Later, I used a Teletype model 43, which was a dot matrix printer. It had pretty good print quality with a 9 wire head, so it did upper and lower case. While in high school, I did harm RTTY on 40 meters using a Teletype model 15, a model 14 "transmitter distributor," and a model 14 "typing reperf." I also had a Kleinshcmitt (bad spelling) printer. The first dot matrix printer I ever saw was an Extel used for press wire service, replacing the model 15. The first ink jet printer I ever saw was an Olivetti that printed one dot at a time. The print head moved back and forth across the paper really fast. Also had a daisy wheel printer for printing instruction manuals in "letter quality." Some day, I'd like to resurrect some old stuff like that, but my wife and I are trying to be more portable as we approach retirement. My ham radio stuff now is largely restricted to handytalkies. Some day I hope to get back on HF. We recently visited a radiotelegraph station originally established by Marconi. Photos are at http://ming.hallikainen.org/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=3D34176 .
